How this discussion works

Welcome to the first TerrAfrica online discussion and debate:

“What the Future Holds: Sustainable Land Management and Climate Change”

An interactive event to be held alongside the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP9) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 21 September to 2 October 2009.

The idea is to:

  • Provide an opportunity for conference participants, stakeholders and the general public to contribute ideas for how SLM can help to alleviate the challenge of climate change.
  • Help strengthen understanding of the potential of SLM to achieve climate adaptation and mitigation objectives in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Initially, distinguished keynote contributors will post their views on topics that follow the general agenda of the COP. This covers Food Security and Adaptation, Land and Copenhagen and Financing.

You can follow these contributions by clicking on the timeline above and checking entries from the moderator and keynote contributors in the left hand column.

The public discussion will be displayed everyday in the right hand column. Feel free to add your own comments and views to the discussion via the comment box.

At the end of each day there will also be a summary of the discussion.

Please contribute and feel free to contact us with questions.

Your engagement will be a great help.

Online debates for conferences

Social media tools allow stakeholders who are not able to travel or attend a conference to be aware, contribute and be engaged in the ongoing discussion. The discussion tool used here is designed as a place for comment and a point of contact for a conversation for as many people as want to contribute.

This creates an audience far wider in scope than the conference participants and one that can provide input as the conference progresses.
